Mending The Divide: A Needle, A Thread, and a Future Woven
Competition Statement
West Baltimore, once nationally renowned as the “Broadway of Baltimore,” remains a vibrant tapestry of culture and creativity where Black voices thrived. Yet within that cultural richness lies a deep scar: the Highway to Nowhere. This proposal redefines the role of transit infrastructure to mend the divide across West Baltimore, weaving together its artistic spirit with intergenerational housing, farmers’ co-ops, educational spaces, and cultural venues across the site. The new Red Line Park stitches these resources into an activated pedestrian path, allowing residents to forge deeper connections with their heritage while building a stronger future for themselves and their families. My team placed 3rd out of 42 teams at the 2024 Barbara G. Laurie Student Design Competition. I served as model lead and also contributed to diagrams, plans, sections, and other drawings.
